Conversation with Eric Roy

1. Why did you study law?

I believe in the continuous cultivation of one’s self. The law touches on so many areas of our lives. I wanted an education that would leave me capable in a variety of contexts.

2. What is the first thing you do in the morning?

My alarm is set to my favorite music at that given time. At the moment I am waking up to Lil John. He has good energy which is just what I need to get the day started.

3. Who is the most influential person in your life?

My mother, she is a strong woman.

4. What kind of books do you read?

I am very academic. I read legal books every weekend. I love to find new areas of law and spend my entire weekend engrossed in the subject matter. I just finished a book on forensic accounting in divorce.

5. What countries have you visited?

I have been to many countries. I have traveled throughout Asia, Africa, Europe, Central America, and South America. My favorite destinations these days are those with white sandy beaches and strong sunshine.

6. If we were to ask your family about you what would they say?

I would hope that they have pleasant things to say. However, my family isn’t one to flower affection. My mother didn’t bake chocolate chip cookies if you get my drift.

7. What do you think of the idea of building a new stadium in Las Vegas, as currently proposed?

I think it is an excellent idea. We need to diversify our economy. It is dangerous for us to be so committed to the gaming and tourism industry alone.

8. What are your goals for the next five years?

I want to continue to improve my advocacy skills of course. I want to give back to the community as I feel that giving back is a fundamental aspect of success.

9. What kind of wine do you like?

Cabernet, I drink it almost every night while listening to the blues.

10. What is your favorite area of Las Vegas?

Town Square is always a favorite of mine. It is convenient and easy to navigate. I’m not one for busy hotels or night clubs.

11. What do you do on your days off?

I have recently taken up golfing and thus I am spending my weekends on the golf course.

12. What is your favorite clothing brand?

Ermenegildo Zegna suits fit me quite well.

13. What can we do to improve the education system here in Las Vegas?

We need to be allocating more money to our education system. We need a better student teacher ratio in our classrooms. There isn’t enough emphasis on education here in Las Vegas. We need to be thinking long term. If we want to bring opportunity to Las Vegas we need to have an educated pool of employees here in Las Vegas.
